Final Project Assignment

Here it is, the final project. Now, no need to panic for this should be a fun and enlightening assignment. Going off of the short blurb about the project under the Learning Opportunities page, the purpose of this assignment is to apply the Social Change Model so that we elevate our community. We’re giving you the assignment now because it will be an on-going project for the rest of the quarter. In place of the final exam, each group will present to the class their Elevation Initiative.

This is what we are looking for:

  • What is your Elevation Initiative?
  • Why did you choose this particular initiative and how does it relate to the Social Change Model?
  • What has your group done so far to fulfill the Elevation Initiative? (note: you should have actually completed 50% of your EI by the end of the quarter)
  • What will your group continue to do? (note: it is okay to have 50% of your initiative left to complete by the end of the quarter)
  • A group assessment: How do you feel your group did in regards to your EI?

The way the presentation is to be done will be up to the group. Don’t be afraid to be creative! If you couldn’t tell already, we absolutely appreciate creativity. The presentation is to be about ten minutes long and should incorporate the participation of each member in the group. We want to see that each member contributed throughout the process.

The grades for the final project will be based on the following criteria:

  • whether or not the group followed directions and completed all sections (see above) – 10 points
  • complexity of initiative (does your initiative work to address the Root Cause of the problem? see page 11 of the text) - 1o point
  • presentation (was your actual presentation well organized, within the time-limit, prepared, well-presented) – 5 points
  • creativity (did you show creativity in every part of the assignment?  Did you constrain yourselves, or did you open yourselves up to unlimited possibilities? – 10 points

To make sure groups head down the proper path, each group will need to submit a paragraph of the first two sections (what the initiative is and why you chose it) to your instructors for evaluation. Your group will then receive feedback and permission to move forward.  THIS PROPOSAL IS DUE 11/2/10

One more thing: don’t depend on class time to get this project done. We may have some free time at the end of class but this is mostly an out-of-class project.

Look forward to working with your classmates and get excited about elevating our community!!  You’re presentations will be during our final class period on 11/30/10
